Srihan Ariyasinghe Asia's Award for Best Mindfulness Coaching Award

Simply, I can define myself as a personality who has “a local pulse and global vision” .First, it was a great feeling that I was recognized as ‘the best mindfulness coach’ at ‘Asia Award’s because as we know Asia Awards is a well-recognized and honourable award ceremony in Asia that always identify the truly talented, committed and sparkling people who are become the assets to the community. In overall, the journey of my life also has become more colourful through four different dimensions; International certified Mindfulness trainer, Award-winning news personality, International researcher & University lecturer, and Volunteer & Social worker.

My primary and secondary education paved the way for me to identify myself as a multi-talented all-rounder; one who secured the position of school head prefect, western band leader, media and debating captain, and a colours man in badminton. Apart from the extra-curricular achievements, I also excelled in my studies and thus emerged among the top 5% of students who obtained admission for a scholarship at a State University in Sri Lanka. Following my entry into university, I attempted to realize my childhood dream of becoming an Electronic Engineer by pursuing the majors - Electronics, Mathematics, and Physics along with laboratory expertise. However, the overall university experience sparked an interest and curiosity towards better understanding the human psyche and its development. Consequently, I found myself gravitating towards the humanities over the sciences.

As a result, while still being a fulltime undergraduate, I entered the field of journalism in 2007 in which I serve until this date. I joined the industry during the height of Sri Lanka’s civil war and thus obtained an extraordinary break to perceive unique socioeconomic and cultural realities. It gave me an understanding of the plight of youth in the rural corners of the country burned by episodes of suicide, under-age marriage, terrorism, and poverty; while also providing a platform on both traditional and social media to discuss the same. Later, it also opened avenues to reach out to high-risk teens and orphans hailing from many multi-ethnic disadvantaged communities since I joined with the UNAIDS, UNDP, and the Red Cross as a trainer. I thereby implemented youth mobilization volunteering projects and AIDS prevention awareness programs for five years. My contribution as a news presenter and a journalist were acknowledged by the community and industry, as I emerged as the best news anchor for four consecutive years in Presidential Media awards and Raigam Tele awards in Sri Lanka. Moreover, the website - www. embrace.lk authenticates my genuine commitment as a social activist.

The execution of my passion for human development gained clarity with the completion of two significant milestones: 1) The culmination of my Master’s degree with a research component in Human Resource Management at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, with exposure to modules of Work Psychology as well as Training and Development; 2) the two invaluable international scholarships obtained on Mindfulness Meditation at the World Peace Initiative (WPI) in Thailand in 2017 and 2018 leading to my certification as an International Mindfulness Meditation Coach. The scholarships themselves were cathartic since they included residential training with Thai Buddhist monks apart from networking with individuals of different nationalities. They influenced me to focus my exposure and expertise towards mental development as a pathway towards attaining the larger goal of human development. Accordingly, I embraced the opportunity to serve as the Country Coordinator for the WPI, wherein I translated and transferred the international exposure that I received by organizing six International Mindfulness and Personal Growth Workshops in 2017 with collaborating Thailand, India ,and Europe . Further, parallel to the above, I travelled to countries such as South Africa, Japan and Thailand during the past five years to gain further insight and present my independent studies on mindfulness, Buddhist philosophy, modern social work, poverty, mental health, and community development. In 2017, the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura invited me to join its visiting faculty. Accordingly, I have been conducting lectures on work psychology and stress management, goal achievement, mindfulness, and work-life balance for undergraduate and postgraduate students since then. I also deliver online training on mindfulness for global youth via www.peacerevolution.net at present.

Currently I share my exposure, ideas, true passion among Sri Lankan community as well as international youth generation through both offline and online platforms over the last decade. I strongly address and ambitious to develop the certain process to the society about how to achieve goals and be success in the work-life integration through mindfulness aspects. I believe my vision and determination will add a positive impact to the world.
